Position Title: Fixed Asset Analyst
Team and Location: Parkland Refining - Burnaby, BC
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager General Ledger and Fixed Assets Supply, Trading and Refinery, the Fixed Asset Analyst will be responsible for ensuring the Refinery projects are accurately set up, accounted for and internal controls are followed. They will work closely with the Project Managers, Technical Manager, Maintenance Manager, and the Area 1 & 2 time keepers to ensure everything is accounted for correctly.
Key Responsibilities:
* Reviews completeness and accuracy of Refinery project AFE (Authority for Expenditure), make sure that the project is correctly classified as an expense or capital, (DOA) delegation of authority is followed during the approval process, an asset disposal form is filled up if the project is disposing an asset, correct business unit is used and correctly classified Solomon determination of the project.
* Analyze monthly Parkland Refinery's JDE job costings and make sure that everything is allocated/settled to either expense or capital.
* Acts as the Subject Matter Expert for JDE job costing and gives assistance to the Technical Manager, Maintenance Manager and Refinery Project Managers regarding any query about their projects in JDE.
* Coordinates with Corporate Fixed assets and GL team in Calgary regarding the set-up of Refinery projects in JDE job costing.
* Works closely with the Technical Manager, Maintenance Manager, Area 1 and Area 2 time keepers for the capitalization of internal labor during the end of the month.
* Provide data for work orders that are above $100,000 to be classified as capital or remain as expense during the end of the month.
* Trace project managers regarding the closure of their projects in JDE job costing for any projects that is past their RFS (Ready for service) dates.
* Trace project managers regarding the overspent of projects than budget and coordinate with PMO for supplementing project budget and eventually update in JDE.
* Trace project managers for inactivity of projects where there is no spent for last 90 days.
* Prepare Project accrual report after month end and provide the report to PMO (Project Management Office) for better understating of what has been spent but not paid yet.
* Works closely with the project managers for the asset creation of a closed project. Assist project managers in identifying the no. of assets and selecting an asset class for the asset upload template.
* Work closely with PMO team for clearing open commitment (closing open PO and WOs) for projects.
* Close projects after job is completed for Cap/Exp projects and coordinate with Fixed asset and JDE admin team to lock the project preventing booking any further costs.
* Prepare a monthly spend report that is sent to all Refinery project managers that will assist them in forecasting future project spend.
* Prepare and reconcile accounting entries as required.
* Provide Assistance with CSOX Compliance.
* Participate in special projects as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
* 3-5 years of relevant experience.
* Finance or Business degree.
* Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) would be an asset.
* Preferable to have Professional Accounting designation (CPA) or enrolled in CPA program.
* Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
* Good Excel Skills.
* Strong communications skills - effectively communicate with Project Managers, Corp Finance team.and other internal stakeholders.
* Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
* Proactive with a team-centric and professional customer service attitude.
* Ability to work independently and adaptable to change.
* Tenacious and determined to get the job done.
